How to use the Merge PDF
- Drag the PDF files you want to merge into the box above, or click it to choose them. The page count is shown for each file.
- Use the ▲ ▼ buttons to the right of each file to change the order. The file at the top of the list becomes the beginning of the merged PDF.
- Remove any file you don't need with the ✕ button, then type a name for the output file.
- Click Merge PDFs and the combined PDF is saved right away.
Why combine several PDFs into one
Job applications, college and scholarship applications, visa forms and online portals often say "upload your documents as a single PDF." If you scanned your resume, diploma or transcript, and certificates separately, you'll need to merge them into one file. Combining PDFs is also handy for cutting down the number of email attachments or tidying up a contract you scanned in several batches.
This tool copies the pages of the original PDFs as they are, so selectable and searchable text and image quality are preserved. Each page also keeps its original size and orientation (portrait or landscape).
Things to check before merging PDFs
- Password-protected PDFs can't be merged. Open the file in a PDF viewer with the password, use "Print to PDF" (or "Save as PDF") to create an unlocked copy, and add that copy instead.
- Only need some pages? Extract them first with Split PDF, then merge the result.
- Want to include photos or scanned images? Turn them into a PDF first with Image to PDF, then add it here.
- If the merged file is too large, use Compress PDF to bring it under the upload limit.
What stays the same and what changes in the merged PDF
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
| Page content (text, images, tables) | Kept as is |
| Page size and orientation | Kept for each original file (Letter, A4 and landscape pages can be mixed) |
| Links and annotations | Mostly kept |
| Bookmarks (outline) | Not included in the new file |
| Fillable form fields (signature boxes, etc.) | Appearance stays, but they may no longer be fillable |
If your document needs bookmarks, add them again after merging in an editor such as Adobe Acrobat.
How to submit scanned documents as one PDF
When you need to send several documents as a single file, such as onboarding paperwork, a scholarship application or proof of address and income, this workflow keeps things neat:
- Convert any photos of documents taken with your phone into a PDF first with JPG to PDF.
- Add the PDFs you already have along with the ones you just created to this page, arrange them in the order the recipient asks for, and merge.
- If unwanted pages slipped in, use page range extraction in Split PDF to keep only the pages you need.
- If there's a size limit (for example, 10 MB or less), finish by shrinking the file with Compress PDF.
Give the file a clear name with your name, purpose and year, such as "Jane_Smith_Application_2026.pdf", so the recipient can find it easily. Because everything is processed inside your browser, documents containing sensitive details like a Social Security number, National Insurance number or passport number are never uploaded to an external server.
