How to use the World Clock
- Open the page to see the current time in major cities, updated every second. Each card shows how far that city is ahead of or behind Seoul, the tool's fixed reference city.
- Pick a city under Add a city and click Add. Remove cities you don't need with the ✕ button on their card. Your list is saved in this browser.
- In the Time Zone Converter, choose a from city and enter a date and time. A table shows what time that is in every city on your list, including the date if it falls on a different day.
UTC offsets for major cities
Every time zone is defined as an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Cities that observe daylight saving time move one hour ahead during their summer, so the time difference between two cities can change during the year. Here are the offsets for some major cities:
| City | Standard time | Daylight saving time |
|---|---|---|
| Honolulu | UTC−10 | None |
| Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver | UTC−8 | UTC−7 |
| Denver | UTC−7 | UTC−6 |
| Chicago | UTC−6 | UTC−5 |
| New York, Toronto | UTC−5 | UTC−4 |
| London | UTC+0 (GMT) | UTC+1 (BST) |
| Paris, Berlin, Rome | UTC+1 | UTC+2 |
| Dubai | UTC+4 | None |
| New Delhi | UTC+5:30 | None |
| Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Perth | UTC+8 | None |
| Tokyo, Seoul | UTC+9 | None |
| Sydney, Melbourne | UTC+10 | UTC+11 |
| Auckland | UTC+12 | UTC+13 |
Some zones aren't whole hours away from UTC: New Delhi is UTC+5:30 and Kathmandu is UTC+5:45. The cards show these differences in hours and minutes.
Why are time differences shown relative to Seoul?
This tool uses Seoul (UTC+9, no daylight saving) as its fixed reference city. The Seoul card can't be removed, and each card says how far that city is ahead of or behind Seoul. To compare two other cities, use the converter: choose one of them as the from city, and the table shows the matching local time in the other.
What is daylight saving time?
Daylight saving time (DST), called summer time in the UK and Europe, sets clocks forward one hour during the longer days of summer. The main schedules are:
- United States and most of Canada: from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. Hawaii and most of Arizona don't observe DST.
- United Kingdom and the European Union: from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
- Australia (Southern Hemisphere): Sydney, Melbourne and other cities in the southeast change clocks from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. Queensland (Brisbane) and Western Australia (Perth) don't use DST.
- New Zealand: from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April.
Because North America and Europe switch on different dates, the gap between New York and London is usually 5 hours but drops to 4 hours for a few weeks in March and in late October to early November. This tool uses the international time zone data built into your browser, so DST is handled automatically for whatever date you enter.
Using time differences for meetings, shopping and travel
- Video calls: set the other person's city as the from city and enter the meeting time to see your local time right away. If the meeting falls on a different day for you, the table marks it as the next or previous day.
- Online sales and launches: events that start at midnight local time, such as US Black Friday deals that open at midnight Eastern Time, begin at 9 p.m. the night before in Los Angeles and 5 a.m. in London.
- Flights: departure and arrival times on tickets are always local times. To work out the actual flight duration, convert both times to the same time zone before subtracting.
- Payments abroad: if you're paying in a foreign currency, check the amount with the currency converter too.
